Ever thought you would see a submarine in a tank? I have one right in my own home! Of course, it’s not a real submarine, it’s a Hi-Tech RC Submarine (3CH) I bought from DealtoWorld.com under the R/C Boats of the site for the kids (and myself) to maneuver around the big aquarium tank we have at home. We keep several gold fish and they seem pretty amused at the remote-controlled submarine too. For the past month, the kids and I have been using the controls to get the hang around navigating it around our aquarium. Because we’ve got several items in the tank including bridges and rocks, it takes a while for us to get the hang of controlling the submarine to avoid knocking it against these objects in the tank. It also amuses us when we leave it hovering in the tank and a goldfish comes near it, only to swim quickly away when the submarine starts moving.
The remote-controlled submarine can go forward, backward, left, right, dextrorotate, levorotate, surface and submerge. The average play time is about 10 minutes before it needs another round of charging, which can be done using the included charging cradle. It can go as deep as 1 meter (3 feet), so reaching the bottom of an aquarium tank should be no problem at all. The remote controller is powered by a 9V battery, and the charging cradle is powered by 6 x AA batteries. All batteries are not included. You can take a look at the submarine and the remote control in the pictures.
The submarine has full 3D 3 channel control so we can control each of the two turbines, providing more customized control. It takes a while to get used to though, especially since the kids and I have only really used remote controls for the television, and maybe an r/c car. Even if you don’t use it often in the water, the submarine can be great as a desktop display model while sitting in the charging cradle, don’t you think? It also has cool 2-LED illumination lights make playing the sub more fun at night in complete darkness!
The children love it, and they play with the submarine in the aquarium tank, the pool, on the pond, and even in the bathtub! We have to be careful at the pool and pond though, if the depth is beyond 1 meter, I’m not too sure what will happen. The signal from the remote control might not be able to reach it, so my guess is that the submarine will sink all the way beyond reach.
If you’re up for some creative uses of the submarine, you can consider installing a waterproof camera in or on it, so that it can record what goes on in the fish tank, or pond. That will be a rather interesting tweak this waterproof toy, and watching the video will probably make you feel as if you were snorkeling in the pond, minus the tediousness of getting into swimwear and getting your snorkeling gear. Moreover, you can record your sightings. Alternatively, you can use it as a video camera while you yourself are snorkeling. I’ve yet to try such a tweak, but just thought it would be interesting.
